Poderia me ajudar com essas frases? Desde já obrigado. You don’t act/bereave as a Bachelor of Science should do. You cannot be compared to a great research like Phil Plait (? But should sound more aggressive) Your actions do not agree with what you say. I didn’t get it, I’m not following you, and I even know what you are talking about. (Much less formal than that) I cannot threat my reputation to help you (?) A cultured person…? This guy know, that other guy knows, even that guy there knows.. Could you help me please? My anticipated thanks ok! (???)

Non-literal ones are the ones we use! LITERAL - you don't do it as a Bachelor holder should - incompetence! NON-LITERAL (used more): You don't seem qualified - you're incompetent! LITERAL - you are not the same height (wrong in english) of the researcher Phil Plait NON-LITERAL - you're not a touch on the reseacher Phil Plait (eg he is much better than you) Tuas práticas não condizem com teu discurso. LITERAL - Your practices don't say the same as your discussion. NON-LITERAL - You say one thing and do another. Não entendi nada do que disse-me, estou boiando LITERAL - I didn't understand nothing (grammatically incorrect) that you said to me, I am **** (there is not a verb for this that i can think of) NON-LITERAL - I didn't understand anything that you said, I'm lost. LITERAL I didn't put the hand into the fire for someone dishonest like me NON-LITERAL - I wouldn't take risks for someone I didn't trust. OR I don't take risks for people I don't trust. Tira essa lata velha do meu caminho LITERAL - take these old cans out of my way NON-LITERAL - Take this rubbish away from me / Get this rubbish away from me Pessoas cultas geralmente tem muito a argumentar. Cultured people generally have a lot to debate. LITERAL Someone, another and someone else, already knew of this, only I stayed outside NON-LITERAL - Every Tom, Dick and Harry knew about it, only I was in the dark (ignorant) Poderia me ajudar com essas frases? Desde já obrigado. LITERAL Could you help me with these sentences? Since already thank you. NON-LITERAL - Could you help me with these sentences? Thank you in advance.

Hi. You will need to provide an explanation of each so that they can be matched to the english equivalents - if they have equivalents...

Could you give some example sentences in Portuguese? I have some ideas but not sure if they are really equivalent/can be used in the same way... Cheers
