what is the difference between ''await'' and ''wait''

await = wait for No "for" after "await".

Yes they both give almost the same meaning , while the waiting for something in "awaiting" is with a degree higher of uncertainty , hope and expectation . await means " to wait for " and also " to expect" He awaited a summons . ( expecting it ,a bit uncertain) He waits for the summons .( more sure that he is getting it ,but just waiting for the date of collecting it ) .
