the 1 means "where did you eat?" the 2 means "whether have you eaten in there?" the 2 your wrote: "Ni3 men zai4 nar3 chi1 le ma?“ the 2 should be : “Ni3 men zai4 nar4 chi1 le ma?” Do you see the different?

1. describes (or ask) where you ate Did you eat at that place? 2. describes (or asks) if you have eaten or if you ate Did you eat something there?
