What does this mean, "His British accent is subtle enough to work."? What's meant by 'work' here?

Depends on the context, but pretty much "to work" in this case means "to be fine" or "to not matter".

Is this from a movie? If so, then "His British accent is subtle enough to work." means that he could pass for an Englishman because of his accent, which can fool others into thinking that he is British.
