What is the difference between "fate" and "destiny?"

I would say these words are complete synonyms with only a slight difference. "Fate" implies a negative meaning. (bad things that will happen or have happened)

destiny = synonymous to the word "destination" (obviously) sometimes can connote something "controllable", an "end point" or ultimate Whereas fate would indicate something absolutely set in stone; something that cannot be changed. (would usually be used in the context of "fortunes")
