Out of the germanic languages, dutch, flemish and frisian are all very similar. Most swedish and some norwegian accents are also very similar. Danish and german are not that similar to english in my opinion... But, no language is similar enough that you can't distinguish between them.

Frisian for me sounds like close to Dutch, they are next to each other geographical too. I do understand Plattdütsch quite ok, but can only catch 30% Frisian and 20% northern Dutch. I am aware that all those languages are of Germanic origin, but in this group I find the English language quite unique.

I agree with both these fellows. English is similar to Germanic languages but it is also very unique.
