When do you say ""Assert yourself."" ?

You say "I will assert myself" pretty much when you are talking about standing firm, in control and making your independence known. I only hear it in the future tense or as advice to someone else (you should assert yourself more) which you would say to someone who is not strong willed and needs to be strong willed.
