Are there any differences between "can not" and "cannot"?

They both mean the same. Cannot is usually contracted to Can't in modern speech. Can not is rarely used. It may be used in formal talking.

"Can not" is more emphatic (and formal) than "cannot". "Can't" is unacceptable in formal speech and writing.
