Why is 喜欢duplicated in Chinese as 喜喜欢欢?

From a native Chinese perspective, I always associate this type of repeated use of adjectives with saying in english like "merrily merrily", "quietly quietly", or "on and on", "through and through" or "said and done", "this and that". The first type we really only see it in literature or storytelling but the latter two are quite common in daily speech. I guess you can always argue Chinese just like to make 4 words idioms or 成語, so they often repeat two words adjective to make four.

Actually you can't, 喜欢 verb is a. you can only do that to a adjective ot adverb to emphasize the emotion, such as 高高兴兴,快快乐乐,健健康康,It really depends on linguistic habits, for instance, we say 伤伤心心, but we don't say 悲悲伤伤
