Ramadan Festival Sri lankan made of It is a special and major festival of the Islamic people. Ramadan is observed after a period of twenty eight, twenty nine or thirty days of fasting from the first sighting of the first moon of the month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, to the first full moon of the tenth month of Shawwal .During this period of fasting, Muslims all over the world fast with great devotion.This fast is called by the Arabic word 'saum'.During the fast, no food is consumed from dawn to dusk.Fasting leads to the realization that hunger is cruel and the attitude to help the poor.During this time the obligatory alms called 'Zakat' and the non obligatory alms called 'Sadaka' are given.Children under the age of 6, the sick persons, the elderly, etc do not need to fast. The fast period is ended after seeing the new moon. At the end of the fast, before the end of the prayers in the mosque on the day of the New Year celebration, one should keep enough grains for oneself on the day of the festival and donate the remaining 2kg to each person.This is called ' Sadhakathul Fithra ' and it's a one of great things on this day.

I'm not even Muslim, but I absolutely LOVE Ramadan and everything it stands for. The concepts of this festival are quite gorgeous.
