Recently, I stumbled upon SHINEE’S live performance video of “Everybody.” Watching this video reminded me once again that K-pop tracks shine brighter when paired with performances; and the fact that SHINEE is amazing! In fact, I like SHINEE, so I listened to their entire albums many times. And I know that there are many amazing B-side tracks that deserve more attention. So, let me talk about my three favorite SHINEE B-side tracks today. The first is “Savior,” a disco-based electronic track included in SHINEE’s 2015 album “Married To The Music.” The synth line in the chorus is very catchy, and the part that all the members say “wuuh~” in unison is really addictive.  The second song is called “SHIFT.” It's a retro UK garage track included in SHINEE’s 2016 album “1 of 1.” Many songwriters co-produced this song, but my gut tells me that LDN Noise, the English producer duo team known for “View” and “4 Walls,” probably contributed the most. According to these British lads’ YouTube video, they came up with the intro melodies after watching “Stranger Things.” (For those who may not know, “Stranger Things” is a popular TV show set in the 80s and the 90s. So, you get to listen to many retro themes filled with analog synth sounds.) Last but not least, “Heya” is my third choice! It’s a ballad sung by Jonghyun included in SHINEE’s 2008 debut album. It’s a sad breakup song contrasting with the cutesy lead title “Replay,” which shook up Korea when it came out. In this track, Jonghyun’s vocal skills stand out. (It’s a remake of the Spanish song “Y Si Fuera Ella,” which means ‘What if it were her’ in English.)  So, I guess these are the SHINEE tracks that I think many people sleep on. Besides these three, there are many other great songs from SHINEE’s albums. So, it’s worth exploring their albums even if you aren’t necessarily their fans.
