A nice word to use instead of "good" or "great" is "smashing". "it was a smashing day" or "the food was smashing". Many people think this comes from the verb "to smash" but actually it comes from the indigenous language Gaelic used in the North of the UK and Ireland  "Is maith sin," which sounds identical to "smashing". What have you seen which is "smashing" recently?
