My favorite childhood cartoon is a Japanese cartoon.
In English, we always have to make sure that the subject and the verb agree with each other! Since you use the singular form “cartoon” you use the singular “is.” That’s correct what you did! However, the object of the verb “Japanese cartoon” should singular as well since you used “is.” Since you’re talking about a singular noun now you have to use the article “a” to round off your sentence! What cartoon was it by the way?? :)
