Maybe we need to interview some people who have turned their hobbies into their careers about this question. As for me, I really admire the people who are doing what they hoped to do as a child. "What do you want to be when you grow up?" everyone was asked this question many time during their chidhood. The answers were omnifarious, which depended on what they liked doing. For example, a boy who liked playing soccer usually wanted to be a professional player. But new problems come, what do your hobbies come from? your parents' hobbies? your favorite cartoons, etc... overall, what kinds of hobbies we would have were really related to the envrinments surrounding us. You had a chance to do some interesting things, then it became one of your hobbies, then you kept doing it for many years until you stated to it as your career. During the process, money and time were the two important supports that could help you going forward. So, I believe that most people want to turn a hobby into a career, but only a few of them succeeded. Where is the boy who once practiced basketball hard now ? In NBA or doing other jobs? but he says "I am a PE teacher!"
