For our first lesson we will discuss your background and goals for learning English. I would have you read a short article aloud in order to gain a sense of your pronunciation skills. I also have students take a short grammar quiz in order to understand their understanding of English structure.

Objective: Reading for specific details; to enhance vocabulary 
Warmup: Discussion about happiness
Main activity: Read "The Happiest Countries in the World" from Conde Nast
Discussion: Vocabulary, reasons experts believe the societies are happy
Follow up activity: Vocabulary sentences
Closure: Questions and thoughts for future discussion

High Intermediate Vocabulary

Warmup: Introductions and Greetings
Main Activity: Discuss food vocabulary. Talking about pictures of food and various food categories. 
Assessment: Student places each word in the correct vocabulary "bucket."
Closure: Vocabulary for saying goodbye, particularly in restaurants.

Beginner English

Objectives: Listening for main ideas; discussing advanced vocabulary
Introduction: Greetings and discussion about goal setting
Main activity: Listen to  TED talk about getting motivation when feeling stuck. Students writes down main ideas and also highlights unknown vocabulary. After listening, teacher highlights vocabulary. Discuss the speaker's intentions together.
Assessment: Use vocabulary in meaningful sentences.
Closure: Set goals for future learning.

Phrasal Verbs and Idioms

Warmup: Discuss your cultural background. Look at pictures of famous landmarks. Talk about famous food/dishes.
Activity 1: Read "All are neighbors" by Alexandra Penfold. Talk about things people do everyday.
Activity 2: Discuss comparatives and superlatives on BBC Learn English Kids. Compare people or weather with United States and another country using comparative language.
Assessment: Talk about your most favorite subjects in school and why. Use 5 superlatives or comparatives.
Closure: Discuss homework and future lessons.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert? Let's discuss the popular theories about the advantages and disadvantages of having introverted or extroverted qualities.
Main material: Forbes article "Understanding extroverted and introverted personalities in the workplace"
Activities: Discuss vocabulary and practice target vocabulary.

Closure: Review main ideas and brainstorm topics for future discussion
