Les villes constituent un centre d’échanges très important. Vers les années mille, le grand commerce se limitait au trafic de produits de luxe réservés à une minorité de riches. Mais en l’espace de trois siècles, du 11e au 13e, les matières premières, les produits alimentaires et les objets fabriqués apparaissent sur le marché et deviennent indispensables à des groupes sociaux plus larges, tels que, par exemple, la bourgeoisie urbaine. On parle alors d'une révolution commerciale. 

Les produits agricoles (principalement le vin et les céréales) et artisanaux (le plus souvent textiles) sont échangés dans des foires locales, puis acheminés vers des foires plus importantes.

Les foires se multiplient dans certaines régions françaises animées par le commerce international : la Flandre, l’Île-de-France, la Champagne. Toutes ces activités artisanales et commerciales s'organisent petit à petit au sein des corporations.

Franco Battiato: un viaggio nella musica dell'anima


Think of a meeting and you might immediately imagine a large table with lots of chairs and people wearing suits.

Or perhaps you imagine a computer screen filled with your colleagues' faces.

But have you ever thought about having a meeting while going for a walk? Many of us already take calls while we're walking, but it's said that walking meetings are becoming more popular too.

Those who like them say it's good to get out of the formal office environment.

Robert Mitson from meeting management company Sherpany says talking to someone when you're walking side-by-side can create a more relaxed atmosphere.

In a small walking group, colleagues can also move from person to person more easily to have one-on-one chats — something that may not be so easy to do in an office or online.

Research has also found that walking can make you more creative, with experts saying that getting moving is a good way to think of new ideas.

And of course, walking is good for our bodies. So a walking meeting lets us get some exercise at the same time as working.

However, walking meetings may not be right for everyone — for example, people who find it difficult to walk, or if someone in the group needs to use a computer.

Others say they find it difficult to focus when they're out for a walk.

And if companies are going to try walking meetings, experts say it's a good idea to choose a quiet place with plenty of space.

Out of Office: Why Workers Are Having Walking Meetings

Many of us know that learning a second language isn't easy — it takes a lot of time and practice. It can be very rewarding, but also very frustrating, so many people might not even think about trying to learn a third language.

But it may not be as difficult as you think.

In fact, many polyglots — that is, people who speak many languages — say that learning a third language is actually easier than learning the second.

But why?

One reason could be that, when learning a third language, you have a better understanding of different language structures.

When we learn our first language, as children, we don't really learn how the language works — we just naturally start using it.

But when you learn a second language, you start getting used to language structures, including ones that might be different from your first language. In some languages, for example, nouns are often either masculine or feminine — while in English, there's no such difference.

Learning these things in our second language often makes it easier for our brains to recognize different structures like this in other languages.

When you learn a second language, you also develop different skills, like memorization techniques. These skills can then be used when learning your third language, making the process faster and more efficient.

Finally, learning your second language might have felt scary at first, but you did it! This may give you more confidence when learning your third language, because you have more of an idea of what to expect.

If you'd like to learn a third language, it might be helpful to choose one that's part of the same language family as one of your other languages, because the similarities could make the process a lot easier.

Why Learning a Third Language Is Easier than a Second

I’ll go over some words but before that here is a practical thing you can do: Record your own pronunciation to your phone and then listen to my version and compare the two.
I found this to be of use when I got my students right in the class to record their voices and then had them listen – wow – it’s like and ‘aha moment’ for them, a moment of realization, a moment of transformation.
