Very few textbooks teach 'euphemisms', but they're an essential part of English life. An euphemism is a mild or indirect word / expression that takes the place of something that is considered too blunt when referring to something embarrassing. For example, the phrase 'a correctional facility' is an idiom that we use instead of the word 'prison'. Or we say that a person is 'big boned', instead of the word 'fat'. So the next time you hear somebody saying that they have to 'powder their nose', or you learn that someone has a 'negative cash flow', use this podcast to know exactly what they mean. 
* By the way, have you ever wondered where the expression 'a bucket list' comes from? Well it comes from the euphemism 'to kick the bucket', which means 'to die'. Your bucket list is the list of all the things you want to do before you 'kick the bucket'. On my bucket list is to learn how to play the guitar. What's on yours?

今天jīn tiān公共gōng gòng汽车qì chē上shàng有yǒu很多hěn duō人rén。一yī个gè老lǎo人rén上shàng车chē后hòu看见kàn jiàn一yī个gè空kōng座位zuò wèi，他tā走zǒu过guò去qù想xiǎng坐zuò。但是dàn shì一yī个gè小xiǎo包bāo在zài空kōng座位zuò wèi上shàng，一yī个gè年轻nián qīng人rén坐zuò在zài旁边páng biān。

老lǎo人rén问wèn：这zhè个gè座位zuò wèi有yǒu人rén吗ma？

年轻nián qīng人rén说shuō：有yǒu，这zhè是shì一yī个gè老lǎo太太tài tài的de座位zuò wèi。她tā买mǎi东西dōng xī去qù了le。

但是dàn shì汽车qì chē开kāi了le，也yě没有méi yǒu人rén回来huí lái。老lǎo人rén说shuō：她tā还hái没méi回来huí lái，可是kě shì她tā的de包bāo还hái在zài这zhè，我们wǒ men扔rēng到dào外面wài miàn还huán给gěi她tā吧ba！

年轻nián qīng人rén大dà叫jiào：不bù！那nà是shì我wǒ的de包bāo！

Do you study Spanish? Has it ever happened to you that you don't understand how a word works? in which position it should go? What you don't understand in Spanish is probably similar in your own language and you didn't know it.

June：那刚刚有提到中国的父母喜欢给孩子安排相亲，但是我们知道很多西方国家的父母不太去管，或者是插手孩子的，比如说谈恋爱或者是什么时候结婚这件事。那你觉得为什么中国的父母喜欢给孩子安排相亲呢？
Yuli：我父母他们说是他们觉得这个像一个任务一样，他觉得说把我养大，然后看着我结婚成家，他觉得这个才是他的一个任务的完成。然后我觉得还有一个就是社会大环境是这样，所以是一个舆论压力。他们会觉得说周围的同龄人特别是我们同龄的那些亲戚，还有他们自己的朋友的小孩，这个年纪或甚至是比我年轻的都结婚了，生小孩了，他们就觉得说应该跟别人一样，就别人这样做你也应该这样做。
June：我觉得还有一点就是中国的一个传统观念就是传宗接代，还有一个养儿防老。父母会担心，现在有可能自己一个人过得挺好，但是将来你也有老了的一天或者是你生病了，那等父母都不在这个世界上了，他们希望会有一个人来照顾你，所以我觉得这个就是为什么他们想要给孩子安排相亲（的原因）。
