How do you improve your IELTS band score. In this podcast I’m going to give you 1 simple strategy to help you get the band score you need.

The technique I’m going to teach you is paraphrase. Yes, paraphrasing is very important, and it’s something that IELTS examiners listen out for. In the IELTS band descriptors you will see that you can not get a band score 6 or 7 unless you can paraphrase effectively.

Let me give you an example.

Let’s say in part 1 the examiner asks you about your hometown and asks you this question: Is your hometown a popular destination for foreigners?

You should answer the question by choosing a synonym for foreigners, for example, tourists.

You could also choose a synonym  for destination, for example visit.

So, when the examiner asks you “Is your hometown a popular destination for foreigners?” you could answer like this:

Yes, many tourists visit my hometown. 

So, you’ve answered the question using paraphrase.

Instead of foreigners you said tourists and instead of destination, you said visit.

Let me teach you again. If the examiner asks you “Is your hometown a popular destination for foreigners?” you could answer:

Yes, many tourists visit my hometown.

Strategy 1 - paraphrasing

Каждый день я встаю примерно в 6 или 7 часов.
Every day I get up at around 6 or 7 o'clock.

Потом я иду в ванную. Я чищу зубы и умываюсь.
Then I go to the bathroom. I brush my teeth and wash my face.

После этого, я иду на кухню. Там я готовлю себе завтрак.
After that, I go to the kitchen. There I make myself breakfast.

Иногда я завтракаю поздно потому что утром у меня не всегда есть время и я не очень голодная.
Sometimes I have breakfast late because I don't always have time in the morning and I'm not very hungry.

Утром мне нравится пить кофе с молоком и есть кашу с фруктами.
In the morning, I like to drink coffee with milk and eat porridge with fruit.

Я работаю за компьютером.
I work on the computer.

Я начинаю работать рано утром и заканчиваю поздно вечером.
I start working early in the morning and finish late in the evening.

Но я всегда стараюсь найти время, чтобы приготовить еду и немного погулять на улице.
But I always try to find time to cook food and take a walk outside.

Я очень рада, что мне не надо ездить на работу в офис, но иногда мне надоедает работать из дома потому что я мало гуляю.
I am very glad that I don't have to commute to work in the office, but sometimes I get tired of working from home because I walk very little.

Вечером я всегда смотрю телевизор.
In the evening, I always watch TV.

Обычно я смотрю старые фильмы или видео на YouTube про декор, природу, кухню и так далее.
Usually, I watch old movies or videos on YouTube about decor, nature, cooking, and so on.

Я ложусь спать поздно, примерно в 11 вечера.
I go to bed late, around 11 PM.

Я не могу ложиться спать рано.
I can't go to bed early.
