Descrição
Malayalam is the language of Kerala, and Malayali speakers are everywhere in the world's hospitals, hotels, ships, oil fields and software teams, so Malayalam-influenced English is one of the most traveled Indian Englishes. It is also one of the most distinctive, because Malayalam has the richest consonant system of the four Dravidian languages: several "r" sounds, several "l" sounds including the retroflex "L" and the famous "zh", a full set of nasals, and a habit of gliding into vowels with a small "y" or "w" ("yes" for "S", "wonly" for "only"). What you will learn: • Malayalam in one minute • Consonant shifts • Vowel shifts • Rhythm and melody • Particles and discourse words • The decode routine: undo the shift • Practice: decode the sentence • Listening strategies • Self-check questions to test your ear Level: B1–B2. Self-study: listen, then take the quizzes. Audio voiced with AI from an original script by Dr. Rashmi R Nair.
