Cette fable, écrite par Jean de La Fontaine et publiée en 1668, met en scène une course improbable entre un lièvre, animal rapide et trop sûr de lui, et une tortue, lente mais très tenace. Convaincu de sa victoire facile, le Lièvre prend tout son temps : il part tard, se repose, s'amuse et fait même une sieste. Pendant ce temps, la Tortue avance sans jamais s'arrêter, à son rythme. Lorsque le Lièvre s'aperçoit enfin de son erreur, il pointe vers la ligne d'arrivée mais il est trop tard : la Tortue a déjà gagné la course...
