El Huapango de Moncayo es un poema sinfónico mágico, con ese toque de mexicanidad, que al escucharlo te alegra y te levanta el espíritu.

Es la obra sinfónica mexicana más famosa en el mundo y la más popular en México. Tuvo gran aceptación desde que la Orquesta Sinfónica de México, bajo la batuta de Carlos Chávez, la estrenó en el Palacio Bellas Artes el 15 de agosto de 1941.

No es que el Huapango de Moncayo sea mejor que otras obras musicales, como la Sinfonía India, la más popular de Chávez o las nacionalistas Sensemayá y La Noche de los Mayas, de Silvestre Revueltas.

Pero el Huapango de Moncayo, seas melómano o alguien que no es asiduo a salas de concierto, “te atrapa, más como mexicano”. Es una obra “alegre, que te levanta el espíritu”, dice el pianista y compositor Samuel Pascoe.

Quizá por eso es considerada como el segundo himno nacional de México, distinción que se disputa con la Marcha de Zacatecas.

Gran pianista, percusionista, maestro de música, compositor y director de orquesta, José Pablo Moncayo García nació en Guadalajara el 29 de junio de 1912 y murió en la CDMX el 16 de junio de 1958.

En el Conservatorio Nacional de Música, Carlos Chávez fue maestro de composición de Moncayo, quien sería percusionista y pianista de la Orquesta Sinfónica de México.

En las postrimerías del nacionalismo de esos años y a sabiendas del talento de Moncayo, Chávez le encargó que fuera al puerto de Alvarado, Veracruz, para que conociera a detalle el huapango tradicional y creara una obra sinfónica.

Huapango se estrenó cuando Moncayo tenía 29 años.

Después fue becado por el Institute Berkshire de Serge Koussevitzki y asistió a cursos impartidos por Aaron Copland en Tanglewood, Massachusetts, EU, en 1942. Ahí tuvo como como condiscípulos a Leonard Bernstein y a Blas Galindo.

Hi everyone! Welcome back to Thai- T La Nid (ไทยทีละนิด) Podcast. This is the episode 3 with me, Om-am.

In Thailand, after saying “สวัสดีครับ/สวัสดีค่ะ”, we often greet each other by asking “กินข้าวหรือยัง” or “กินข้าวรึยังคะ” (รึยัง or หรือยัง have the same meaning) “กินข้าวหรือยัง” means “Have you eaten yet?” 

In Thailand, especially in the past, we normally eat rice. That’s why we say “กินข้าว” when we have a meal even we might eat something else. Haha.

And you can reply back by saying “คุณกินแล้วค่ะ” or “เรียบร้อยแล้วค่ะ” if you have already eaten. And “ยังไม่ได้กินค่ะ” or “ยังเลยค่ะ” if you haven’t eaten anything. 

Now, let’s take a looks at some more phrases about this topic:
