Many English speakers meet Malayalam with no map, assume it is a kind of Hindi, and translate English word by word. A typical mistake is building "I am going home" in English order with loose words: ഞാൻ പോകുന്നു വീട് (njaan pokunnu veedu). Natural Malayalam glues the direction onto the noun and puts the verb last: ഞാൻ വീട്ടിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു (njaan veettilekku pokunnu) = I am going home.
