はい、こんにちは。今回はポッドキャストのシーズン２の9回目です。もうすぐ桜の季節なので、日本に旅行を計画している生徒さんが多いです。去年も一昨年もコロナウイルスで、たくさんの有名な観光地が、お花見のために集まることを禁止していました。なので、今年のお花見は混雑するかもしれません。私の近所の公園にも桜が咲いています。これについては、去年の４月に録音したシーズン１の20回目でお話ししました。よかったら聞いてみてください。

Hello, This is episode 9 of season 2 of my podcast.  It will soon be cherry blossom season and many students are planning a trip to Japan. Last year and the year before, due to the coronavirus, many famous tourist attractions banned people from getting together for cherry blossom viewing. So this year’s cherry blossom viewing may be crowded. Cherry blossoms are also blooming in my neighbourhood park. I talked about this in the 20th episode of season 1, recorded last April. 先週私は体調を崩しました。木曜日から目眩と動悸がして、週末にはもっとひどくなりました。日曜日の最初のレッスンが終わった後、すぐに病院に行くことにしました。私がいつも行っている歯医者の近くに、日曜日でも開いている内科の病院がありました。そこでCTI検査をして、原因を調べました。CTI検査では、体の中の写真を撮ります。検査では、胃が３倍ぐらいの大きさに膨らんで、他の内臓を圧迫していることが分かりました。お医者さんは「十二指腸の動きが弱くなっている」と説明してくれました。

Last week I fell ill. I started feeling dizzy and having palpitations on Thursday and it got worse over the weekend. I decided to go to the hospital immediately after my first lesson on Sunday. Near my regular dentist there was a medical hospital that was open on Sundays. There I had a CTI test to find out what was causing the problem; in a CTI test, pictures are taken of the inside of your body. The examination showed that my stomach had swelled to about three times its size and was pressing on my other internal organs. The doctor explained that the duodenum (the part that connects the stomach to the intestines) was weakening.

病院でもらった薬を飲んだら、症状は治りました。月曜日にもう一度検査をして、そのあと本屋に行って、社会学の本を３冊買いました。最近、Shrinkflationという英語の単語を知りました。日本語では同じ現象を「ステルス値下げ」と呼びます。「ステルス」は戦闘機の名前から取っています。「ステルス値下げ」は、消費者に気づかれないように原価を下げることです。たとえば、パッケージの大きさは変えずに、中のお菓子のサイズだけを小さくして、今までと同じ値段で売ります。

“It’s sad to say, but there have been too many times I’ve seen terrible examples of plastic waste. The one time that really sticks in my mind was about 2 months ago when I visited a very famous and beautiful lake, just a stone's throw from my hometown. The whole area is famous for its natural beauty and scenery, and has become a very popular place for tourists to visit.




I went there with a couple of my friends, as we thought it would be the perfect place to enjoy some of the wonderful natural scenery the country has to offer.




I can still clearly remember as we took a path down to the lake, there were plastic bottles and bags tossed everywhere all the way down to the shore of the lake. The lake itself was in an even worse state, with plastic bags, bottles and discarded styrofoam boxes floating on the water, which was a pretty depressing sight. 




It was obvious that so many ignorant visitors to the lake bring along some food or drinks to have a picnic, leaving their waste behind, or just tossing it into the lake without a thought about the harm they are doing.




I was so disgusted and ashamed by the sight that we took lots of photos to post on some public social media groups, and try to bring some attention to this environmental mess. It was truly heartbreaking to see such a beautiful place destroyed by people's ignorance, as well as making my blood boil, that nobody seemed to care.
