Descrição
The seven Malayalam day names are the same seven planets, in the same order, as the English, French and Japanese week. This class teaches the days of the week through the planets behind them, then the time words you will use daily, including മറ്റന്നാൾ and മിനിഞ്ഞാന്ന്, single words for the day after tomorrow and the day before yesterday. You learn to ask and tell the time with മണി, and to hear ഇപ്പോൾ വരാം as reassurance rather than a timestamp. The second half opens the Kerala calendar, whose twelve months are the twelve signs of the zodiac, and the two months with the most weight: കർക്കടകം, the lean monsoon month, and ചിങ്ങം, the harvest month that follows. Words and phrases in this class: ഞായർ (njaayar) – Sunday (the Sun) തിങ്കൾ (thinkal) – Monday (the Moon) ബുധൻ (budhan) – Wednesday (Mercury) വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച (velliyaazhcha) – on Friday ഇന്നലെ (innale) – yesterday നാളെ (naale) – tomorrow മറ്റന്നാൾ (mattannaal) – the day after tomorrow മിനിഞ്ഞാന്ന് (mininjaannu) – the day before yesterday സമയം എത്രയായി? (samayam ethrayaayi?) – what time is it? എട്ടര (ettara) – half past eight ഞാൻ എട്ടു മണിക്ക് വരും (njaan ettu manikku varum) – I will come at eight o'clock ഇപ്പോൾ വരാം (ippol varaam) – I'm coming now (meaning soon) കർക്കടകം (karkkadakam) – the monsoon month that ends the Kerala year In this class: • Seven day names, seven planets: the same week as English, French and Japanese • Today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow and the parts of the day • Telling the time with മണി, and what ഇപ്പോൾ വരാം really means • The Kerala calendar: twelve zodiac months, the lean month and the harvest month Quizzes below.
