On May 10th, we celebrate all the mothers in the world. It is very important in our Mexican culture. Since pre-Hispanic times, love for the mother was present even in the Aztec culture. This poem, written in Nahuatl from the time of the great Nezahualcóyotl, is still present today.

What is the difference between ”これ、おいしいね” and ”これ、おいしいよ” ?

「これ、おいしいね」
「これ、おいしいよ」

この二つの文は、何がちがうでしょうか。

そう、さいごの「ね」と「よ」がちがいますね。

意味は同じでしょうか。　いいえ、ちがいます。

「これ、おいしいね」と言うと、
「うん、そうだね。」とか
「うーん、私はちょっと…。」といった答えが、
いっしょに食べている人から返ってくると思います。
つまり、「おいしいね」と言った人は、「あなたも　そう思うでしょう？」と言いたいときに使います。

「これ、おいしいよ」と言えば、
「へえ、そうですか。」とか
「じゃあ、たべてみようかな。」
といった答えが返ってくると思います。
つまり、相手の人はまだ食べていないので、おいしいかどうかを知らないんですね。　
相手の知らない新しい情報を伝えたいときに「よ」を使います。

まとめると、
「～ね」は、話し手も相手も知っていたりわかっている場合、
「～よ」は話し手は知っているけど、相手は知らないことを知らせるときに使います。　

「ね」…talking about something which you and your partner knows.
               Speakers want agreement from partner.
「よ」…Talking about something which speaker knows but listener doesn’t know.
               Speakers want to let listeners know new things.
