In Britain, serious crimes such as robbery and murder, are tried in court by a judge and jury. The purpose of the trial is to examine the evidence and determine whether somebody is innocent or guilty of the crime that they have been charged with. That is the jury's decision. If the person is guilty, the judge will then decide the correct punishment for the crime.

Today I'm going to talk about "Delicious school lunch Episode 2".
I loved school lunch when I was elementary school and junior high school. 
I often had another serving of school lunch when side dishes were left.
At that time, my enemies were boys and I won by rock-paper-scissors and bot side dishes.
Onday, one of my friend made a proposal……Ｉ didn’ｔthink it would be like that.

給食は、日本の小学校、中学校で　出されるお昼ご飯のことです。
高校にはありません。
私は給食が大好きでした。
学校の給食室で作られたおかずやパンを　生徒たちが　自分たちの教室に運びます。
それから、おかずを一人一人のお皿に盛り付け、配ります。
当番以外のクラスメートたちは、班ごとに机を向かい合わせにつけます。そして、ナフキンをテーブルの上に敷いて、おかずやパンが配られるのが終るのを待ちます。
準備が整ったら、当番が「手をあわせてください！」「いただきます！」と言います。クラスのみんなも「いただきます」と言って、食べはじめます。

給食は　みんなが　おなじものを　同じだけ　たべられるように　作られています。
だから、みんなが好きなおかずのときは、ぜんぜん残りません。
でも、あまり人気のないおかずだったり、誰かが休んでいたりすると、残ることがあります。
そんなとき、私は　だいたい　おかわりをしていました。　おかわりするのは　ほとんどが　男子生徒です。　それで、おかわりを男子と競って、じゃんけんで勝負したりしました。

中学生のころ、好きな歌手の写真を　下敷きにはさんでいました。
ある日、友だちが　その写真と今日のおかずを交換したいと言ってきました。
私は少し迷いましたが、おかずが欲しくて、その好きなタレントの写真をその子にあげてしまいました。
ところが、その日のおかずは、私のあまり好きなおかずではありませんでした。
あまり好きじゃないおかずなのに、たくさん　食べないといけないし、
好きな歌手のかっこいい写真は友だちのものになってしまうし。
めちゃくちゃ残念で、今もそのことをよく覚えています。
食い気だけで行動したら、損をしますね。

誰かと何かを　取引をするときは　よく確認してからしないとだめだと知った
できごとでした。

How to ask and answer "How are you?" in Hungarian

Class 46. Cinema and songs — how to talk about a film like somebody who belongs in the conversation.

WHY THIS CLASS EXISTS
In most countries film is entertainment. In Kerala film is a civic activity. Malayalam cinema is one of the most critically respected industries in the world, with a fiercely literate audience, and ordinary people argue about screenplays and performances the way people elsewhere argue about football.

Two things follow. If you can talk about films, you can join almost any Kerala conversation. And film is the single best listening resource you have.

THE THREE REGISTERS FOR ONE THING
ചലച്ചിത്രം (chalachithram) — motion picture. Chalanam (movement) + chithram (picture). Malayalam built its own compound rather than borrowing. This is what the newspaper prints.
സിനിമ (cinema) — the neutral word.
പടം (padam) — literally "a picture", and what people actually say. ഈ പടം കണ്ടിരുന്നോ? Have you seen this film?

THE VOCABULARY
നായകൻ hero · നായിക heroine — note the pattern: -an masculine, -a feminine. Same in ഗായകൻ/ഗായിക, singer.
പ്രതിനായകൻ the villain — prathi (counter) + naayakan. **Malayalam builds its antagonist out of its protagonist.**
സംവിധായകൻ director — and in Kerala the director IS the star. A Malayali will tell you who directed a film before they tell you who was in it. That is a real cultural difference.
തിരക്കഥ screenplay — thira (screen) + katha (story). The screen-story.
സംഭാഷണം dialogue · രംഗം scene, and also a stage · ദൃശ്യം a visual.

THE WORD WITH TWO THOUSAND YEARS BEHIND IT
അഭിനയം (abhinayam) — acting. It comes from the classical performance tradition, from Kathakali and Koodiyattam, where abhinayam is a formal technical discipline with codified expressions. When a Malayali praises somebody's abhinayam, that whole history is in the word.

How do you improve your IELTS band score. In this podcast I’m going to give you 1 simple strategy to help you get the band score you need.

The technique I’m going to teach you is paraphrase. Yes, paraphrasing is very important, and it’s something that IELTS examiners listen out for. In the IELTS band descriptors you will see that you can not get a band score 6 or 7 unless you can paraphrase effectively.

Let me give you an example.

Let’s say in part 1 the examiner asks you about your hometown and asks you this question: Is your hometown a popular destination for foreigners?

You should answer the question by choosing a synonym for foreigners, for example, tourists.

You could also choose a synonym  for destination, for example visit.

So, when the examiner asks you “Is your hometown a popular destination for foreigners?” you could answer like this:

Yes, many tourists visit my hometown. 

So, you’ve answered the question using paraphrase.

Instead of foreigners you said tourists and instead of destination, you said visit.

Let me teach you again. If the examiner asks you “Is your hometown a popular destination for foreigners?” you could answer:

Yes, many tourists visit my hometown.
