What's the difference between plump and fat? Which one is more commonly used in spoken English?

"Plump" is a friendlier way to say "fat" when describing a person. If I describe someone as plump, I'm saying they are not thin, but also not very fat. Some people say "pleasingly plump" to describe a plump person they find attractive.

Calling someone "fat" usually sounds mean. Some people who are overweight do use that word to describe themselves, though.

Plump is a nice way to say a bit fat or even fat.  Some people may find it attractive.   
You shouldn't call anyone fat because it is rude and mean, in general.   
Actually, in general it is not so polite to comment on people's appearance unless it is to compliment them, and even so, in a respectful manner.

I honestly think it depends on the country's word culture because for me it would sound a bit rude if you were to call me plump rather say fat. Plump is referring to a shapeless round object and as a woman you can't call me shapeless, fat and curvy, yes but not plump🤷‍♀️😂🤣

Oh what a question! Someone who is plump is a bit overweight. I don't think the word is used that often now. Fat is a commonly used word, and can cover anything from being overweight to being obese.

But please don't directly call someone either plump or fat! They won't like it!!
