"In fact, I can help you carry off those two." I point to the sack of dried soy and the small foldable trolley with the sack of dried mushroom tied to it.
"Thank you so much! I work with catering..." the man smiles humbly.
At the stop of Danchu Metro Station, I lift both luggage at once and with much force, carry them off the bus. I am about to lay them down on the bus stop's paved ground when the man speaks hurriedly with gratitude:
"Oh please just put them on the ground! Thank you so much! Thank you."
I see the man get off the bus two with that big carton box loaded with egg and after laying it down, hurried off to get the other carton box which is still on the bus...A passenger help passa that carton box to him...
On my way to the metro station I map out the life reality of that man:
an owner of a small lunchroom who has to go to the local farmers market to buy his food material by himself and to save freight cost, he chooses to take the public bus to bring all the staffs back... This year 2022 is tough...With the pandemic of covid-19 occurs repeatedly and the world economy downturn, the cartering business in China is quite affected. I hear that many restaurant/snack bar owners struggle to survive and some of them are forced to leave the business for bankruptcy and start working as delivery boy or Didi (Chinese Uber) drivers...
After all I believe I have done something good helping that catering man...My heart rejoices with that deed. I feel that this is what makes this life meaningful: to give a helping hand to the others in need...
