Is it correct to say
The information lacked for the majority of the country
In particular I am interested in the use of the verb lack ..as I know that it's possible to say there'a lack of information ..but I would like to use information as the subject of the sentence
Thanks

Hello, Angela.
"lack" is a transitive verb, do not use ‘in’ or ‘of’ after the verb lack:
He lacks confidence;
We lacked ideas;
The country is lacking workforce !!! Here "in" is possible: the country is lacking in workforce
In your example the verb "lack" should be used as a predicate while "the majority of the country"-is to be the subject: The majority of the country lack the information....

Hi Angela! So in this case you want the information to be the subject.
So if 'the majority' is the subject here we would say; The majority of the people in the country lacked information. so we would not use a preposition after the word lack.
But if the information is the subject of the sentence we will have to use a preposition
after lack directed to the object ( the receiver of the action) - The majority
So it's correct to say; The information was lacking for the majority of the country

Olga's reply is good. More examples:
He lacked the information that the official asked for, so he could not complete the interview.
The majority of the country lacked access to impartial news, so they could not make informed decisions.
My daughter lacked potatoes, so she could not make her favorite soup.
