They are using "contort" as a sort of metaphor. A contortionist is a type of circus performer. Maybe you say Конторціоніст? When we use "to contort" as a metaphor, we mean that you should not bend and twist your normal behavior in order to fit a situation that is not normal for you. Does that make sense?
