Hey everyone!⭐ ⭐
Did you know what I've learnt in my 5+ years of teaching English to East Asian students?
Well, no matter what level - beginner or advanced, articles seem to be a really tricky thing for my students!
Basic guidelines I give my students are:
1. When talking about a topic in general, you usually omit articles and use the plural.
2. When referring to something specific, you use 'the.'
3. If you’re talking about something non-specific that’s part of a larger group, you use 'a' or 'an'.
For example:
-⭐ I love playful dogs. (omit articles because you are talking in general about dogs)
⭐ I love the playful dog. (use "the" when talking specifically about a dog that both you and the listener are familiar with)
⭐ I love a playful dog. (use "a/an" when saying you love one dog but you are not specifially identifying which one)
Let's practice!
In this scenario where neither of us knows the cat, the sentence would be:
"Oh, there's ______ dirty cat over there."
