What is the meaning of this sentence ?
“ But the narrative was that his anger was getting in the way of his being a great golfer and that he need to address it. ”
Does it mean that his anger hinder him from being a great golfer and he need to change? I don’t really understand “getting” here.
Narrative means description in the dictionary, and I don’t understand what it wants to express here.
Very appreciative of any reply, thanks.
“Getting in the way” is an idiomatic expression, so all of the words go together. It means to “hinder.”
You just have to memorize these expressions as phrases and not as individual words.

GET has so many possible uses. If someone or something GETS in your way, they come between you and where are are trying to go. Not necessarily on purpose, but still they are in your way, i.e. blocking/hindering you.

Narrative also simply means “story”. But in the past 10 years it has been used by academics and politicians with a more detailed, cynical meaning:
NARRATIVE : a way of presenting or understanding a situation or series of events that *reflects and promotes a particular point of view or set of values*
I believe this is the usage implied in your example.
