Hi everyone
Sorry if this is a silly question, but I was wondering if I book a trial, can I ask you anything about English and actually learn, or will it just be a small talk?
Thanks

With most teachers, the trial lesson is a half-hour to evaluate your level, understand your goals, and propose a learning plan.

Howdy!
It depends on the teacher. If you have some specific language questions you want answered, you might want to message the teacher and ask if they are willing to help you with those specific topics during the trial class. If you want some immediate language learning assistance, I’d be happy to offer that!

It would probably be better to book an instant lesson. In terms of cost and duration, they are the same as trial sessions, but their purpose is more one-off help with specific questions or just to chat. They are not really intended for building a longer term working relationship, which is how many teachers view trials. The only disadvantage is that not all teachers offer instant lessons. Many do though, so still plenty of choice.

Your question isn’t silly at all!
If you book a trial lesson, it depends on the teacher’s style, but generally, you can absolutely ask about English and learn during the session. Many teachers use trial lessons to understand your goals, assess your level, and introduce their teaching methods. Some may include small talk at the beginning to get to know you, but you can definitely ask grammar questions, discuss pronunciation, or request help with specific topics.
If you have a particular focus in mind, it’s a great idea to mention it when booking the lesson so the teacher can prepare accordingly

I think most teachers will be happy for you to ask anything you want to ask. If they have a conversational style of lesson, they may be surprised if you ask a very academic question, and if they have a strictly structured lesson plan, they may be surprised if you ask an unrelated question, but so long as you ask politely, it should be fine, and if you don't like their answer or their attitude towards your question, I suggest finding a better teacher. I think the best ones are the most flexible and open to all kinds of questions.
