Hello! I am a native English speaker from California and I created an 18 question quiz tests English vocab, grammar and pronunciation. I was told that the test is unfair and too difficult. In fact, not even a native speaker of English can get a perfect score. If you are a native or fluent speaker of English, could you take the quiz below and tell me what you think? Thank you PART I: WORD CHOICE Fill in the blank with “there”, “they’re” or “their” 1. ____ are many dogs in the park. 2. The school is located over ____. 3. They left ____ book at my house. 4. I think ____ very smart. Fill in the blank with “you’re” or “your” 5. ____ very handsome. 6. ____ dog is very aggressive PART II: VERB CONJUGATIONS Fill in the blank with the correct form of the infinitive verb in all caps. Choose among the four listed verb conjugations in parentheses 7. I [TO GO] to school yesterday (went / yode / gone / have gone) 8. Tomorrow I [TO GO] home (would go / will go / went / yode) 9. I have just [TO EAT] food (ate / eaten / eats / eat) 10. I have [TO BE]fine (been / was / being / are) 11. The man [TO WALK] to school (walk / walks / walking / walker) 12. The boy [TO SLEEP] on the sofa (sleep / sleeps / sleepest / sleepeth) 13. Yesterday I did [TO GO] to the store (gone / go / went / yode) PART III: Pronunciation Chose the word that rhymes with the word in all caps 14. PROVE (love / dove / move / shove) 15. DEBRIS (see / Chris / his / rise) 16. ARKANSAS (Kansas / saw / mass / ananas) PART IV: WORD CHOICE Complete the sentence with the best word in the list 17. My ____ is Smith and I am a student (name / hobby / job / car) 18: I am a native _____ of Arabic and I am learning English (speaker / talker / translator / born)

I would say the test is fairly easy, but culturally specific in Question 16 of Part III - unless you were American, you could speak excellent English and not know that Arkansas rhymes with saw.

I didn’t think it was difficult. I would be wary about the pronunciation ones though. English is a phonetic language and there are regional variances in how words are pronounced. I specialise in accent and pronunciation, and it’s a massive topic! Otherwise, it’s good! :)

Hi ned, I am a native English speaker and although I'm not going to put all my answers on here, I will say it is not that difficult for a native speaker. Hope this helps! 🙂
