Naomi
★Question for English native speakers I am asked this question for several times "How would you like to call you?" or "What can I call you?", especially in my first online lessons. So, my question is how should I response to this question in natural ways?

The correct questions are: What would you like me to call you? What should I call you? You can answer: You can call me ... Please call me ... People call me ... My friends call me ...

It should be: "How would you like me to call you?" You could reply: - You can call me Charlie... - My name's Charlie... - My first name's Charlie... - I'm Charlie... - Hi, I'm called Charlie... - Just call me Charlie... Any of these would be fine. Just use the one you feel most comfortable with.

Charlie gave a nice, detailed answer (just remember to introduce yourself as “Naomi”, not “Charlie”). This is really not a trick question — the other person just wants to know the name that you would like them to call you. They may pop this question if you’ve given them a name that they find too difficult to pronounce or remember, so have a suitable name in mind, be prepared to spell it (in a language your conversation partner understands) if necessary (native speakers do this all the time, as names can be spelled in many different ways). If this came up in one of your online English lessons, your teacher should have helped clear up your confusion then and there.

You could also say: "My name is [Adalet], but please call me [Ada]." This option is ideal for when you have a nickname that you want people to use, and that is also why teachers ask this question and not simply "What's your name?" Hope that helps!
