well,for first at learnibg japanese i started in an application for learning languages. I think you all know duolingo,right? i started learning there,and only after completing at least at one lesson a day for 2 months I started learning with a japanese native-speaking tutor. I guess if i came to tutor with any skills of japanese it would be harder to teach me anything! but duolingo is an app only to start you actual language learning journey. it’s only for basic knowledge and just to start learning. we can’t be definetly sure if any information there is systematised or true. then i got an English-japanese kanji dictionary — to make sure I remember everything. and some apps to improve my hearing. — good luck in learning💓

If you’re into anime, that could be a good way to practice listening. Sometimes the Japanese used is casual but it has helped me with identifying key phrases

In addition to what others have said you might take a look at Anki, a learning app based on spaced repetition with flash cards. I use it for learning Korean and have fond a number of deck available that include both written information and audio for the card. In other words, I get a prompt written in Korean (Hangul). When I "flip the card" -- this is a mobile/computer app -- I see the answer in English (and for one deck I found also in Japanese) plus when the card is first presented I hear the audio reading what is written in Korean. I suspect there will be some for Japanese that are similar. That will get you a start with both vocabulary and a bit of training your ear - plus you can repeat to start training for speaking. Then you can get a teacher to practice more. Plus you can create your own decks if there are specific aspect you want more reinforcement for.
