What’s difference “ supermarket “ and “ hypermarket “?

Hypermarket - it's a marketing term used to describe a very large supermarket which offers a wide range of goods and products - it's probably less commonly used in English speaking countries; I have seen it used in France - hypermarche´- for supermarkets on the edges of cities surrounded by car parks.
