Can anyone explain the difference between Imperfective and perfective verbs in Russian? I've been having a hard time figuring out when I should use the Imperfective or the perfective verbs when forming a sentence.

It has to do with if an action is completed (I ate the sandwich) or ongoing.
Spanish uses this in the past tense, which made it a little easier for me to wrap my head around when I started Russian.
A helpful note: In the present tense, you only use the ongoing for because it is all happening "now" (I am reading). So there is less to think about if you are speaking in the present tense.

Привет! Я могу помочь. Глаголы совершенного вида используються для завершённых действий. Глаголы несовершенного вида описывают длительные действия. Это аналог simple и continuous.
Пример:
"Глажу кошку" (несовершенный вид).
*Я делаю это сейчас. Это растянуто во времени.
"Погладил кошку" (совершенный вид).
*Это уже случилось. Неважно, сколько времени заняло.
