In the United States, education is seen as a right. This might sound good at first, but many, many people take it for granted. Actually, not only do they take it for granted, they abuse their right to education. Oftentimes, there is not accountability for students and parents in the public education systems, so that bad kids and the bad parents ruin it for everyone else. Teachers are powerless to discipline thier students properly when this happens, because they don't have the legal authority necessary to do so. This is why their is such a big difference between urban public education, suburban public education, rural public education, and private education in the United States. This is also why there is so much violence and failure in these schools.
After teaching in these schools, I have decided that something must be done. Parents and students should share in the responsibility for each child's education, and if they refuse to do so then there should be a way of removing them from the normal schools immediately. This should be the same for any student who ever attempts to commit violence against another student. They should not be allowed back to that school, ever.
What do you think? How can parents and students be held accountable lin education? Should we view education as a privilege that can be lost, or as a right that the state must afford even those that do not want it?
I don't really know, but I will point out something that I disagree with. If you throw a kid out of class forever for committing one act of violence, you basically ruin that kid's life. What if he is a good kid who is goaded into hitting someone by some nasty little brats? I think it has to be taken case by case.
Quality of education is certainly a privilege.
No joke, the education is priority for a personality child, every family must have a right for kids education, because will be important in the future life, like a first relation with other children.
About a violence problem, it need a good measures and institutions for stop and limitation phenomenon, but it's no just break education for any children!
Initiative group of students should solve these problems.
I am not talking about denying the child any education. I am talking about sending them directly to a reform school environment if they initiate violence against another student. When we fail to do so, we guarantee that every child's education will suffer. Just look at our urban public schools. What are we doing? We are teaching kids and parents that there is no real accountability for violence and abusive behavior towards others and teachers. We are teaching them that authority figures are to be hated and scoffed at as powerless losers who at the same time can be blamed for all the world's problems. We need to change our way of thinking. We try to rescue every child, and end up failing every child in these schools in the process.
