Language has an effect on how we see the world but in relation with culture , I think that the way we understand some concepts due to our cultural background differs from a culture to another, And language is part of culture. I speak three languages and now I'm learning English, and sometimes when I talk with someone who speaks these three languages the topic may not be understood useing one of these languages, but when I switch to another language he gets to understand what I'm talking about.

I cannot find the result right now, but there has been a study where people fluent in English and French were told to discuss a particular topic, one group in English and one in French, and the discussion consistently had a different focus depending on language. So yes, language does guide our thinking!
