It is easy to become a polyglot in the Internet, but the most of the cases it is just FAKE. People trying to sell you a "method", a "book" or a "miracle".
Seriously, when you see the word "polyglot", better run away.
I am not a polyglot but I don't see why some people who are already advanced speakers of at least one other European language cannot immerse themselves in a new culture, focus solely on language learning, and reach an upper intermediate level in a new language in around a month.
On the other hand, there are people like me who learn a bit of Italian most days; I speak Italian twice a week, I have never lived in Italy, and I need to operate in English at a high level for my job. I don't expect to make rapid progress but I'm happy to plod along.
