Good advice! Just another extension on something you said in point 7 about sounding dynamic and interesting... I often suggest that it's better to use active verbs, as I notice some of my students still use "to be", which sounds very static.

Something as simple as "I worked as a receptionist" instead of "I was a receptionist", or "I managed my own business" compared to "I had my own business", can make you sound much more proactive.
