when should I use the idiom (get above yourself) ? also I'd like to know if it's similar to (get over yourself)or not? and what's the equivalent idiom in the Egyptian Arabic?
Thanks in advance

The preposition certainly changes the meaning, so here are some explanations:
to get above yourself - this means you think you are superior to others when you're really not.
to get over yourself - this means you stop being so preoccupied with your own thoughts (check the phrasal verb, to get over something)
...and for a bonus...
to get ahead of yourself - this means you're too eager to move forward and you're not planning properly or thinking about things that you should consider right now

En grec on utilise l'expression " ξεπέρασε τον εαυτό του" : ça veut dire, il a reussi de vaincre lui-même, de surmonter des difficultés qui l'empechaient de faire quelque chose...il a devenu meilleur qu'avant
