What are prefixal verbs in Polish language?
If you've been learning Polish for some time and reached at least intermediate level you may have started discovering the world of Polish prefixes.
What are prefixes in Polish?
Whey are usually syllables attached to the beginning of a common verb giving it a new specific meaning. (The verb itself sometimes change the root too but it's another topic). Thanks to the prefixes you are able to express your thought very precisely. Some like to compare them to English phrasal verbs.
Let me give you an example.
BRAĆ means to take. If you add prefix za- to it, you'll get ZABRAĆ meaning to take away. If you add prze- you'll get PRZEBRAĆ which means to change clothes. If you add wy- you will get WYBRAĆ and so on, and so forth.
There are some universal prefixes which usually mean the same like WY- - usually meaning out. But unfortunatelly it doesn't always work like this.
I want to introduce you to the huge Sesame with prefixal verbs. I wrote this articles on verbs with root brać:
It has a list of verbs, translations and examples. Let me know if you found it helpful! :)
