Hi there.

I am really struggling with finding the right English word for a Norwegian word.

We’ve been searching and translating but without any luck. My English partner said deceleration but not sure if that’s the correct meaning(?)

The Norwegian word is “ Vedtak”

This is what it means in Norwegian:

Et vedtak er en betegnelse på en avgjørelse truffet under utøvelse av offentlig myndighet, som generelt eller konkret er bestemmende for rettigheter eller plikter for private personer, jf. forvaltningsloven § 2 første ledd bokstav a). Avgjørelsen skal dermed være rettslig bestemmende over rettighetene og pliktene til ”private personer (enkeltpersoner og andre private rettssubjekter),” samt at avgjørelsen skjer ”under utøving av offentlig myndighet”.

denne lov menes med: a) vedtak, en avgjørelse som treffes under utøving av offentlig myndighet og som generelt eller konkret er bestemmende for rettigheter eller plikter til private personer (enkeltpersoner eller andre private rettssubjekter); b) enkeltvedtak, et vedtak som gjelder rettigheter eller plikter til en eller flere bestemte personer; c) forskrift, et vedtak som gjelder rettigheter eller plikter til et ubestemt antall eller en ubestemt krets av personer”

when I translate it ( some words are just so wrong):

A “vedtak” is a designation of a decision made of public authority, which generally or specifically determines the rights or obligations of private persons, cf. section 2, first paragraph, letter a) of the Public Administration Act. The decision must thus be legally determinative of the rights and obligations of "private persons (individuals and other private legal entities)", and that the decision is made "under the exercise of public authority".

Decisions may contain rights and obligations for both natural and legal persons. One can divide the concept of decision into two main groups. One is individual decisions, which apply to the rights and obligations of one or more specific private persons, cf. the Public Administration Act section 2, first paragraph, letter b.
