What is the oldest place in your hometown?
I'm not 100% (a hundred percent) sure what the oldest place in my hometown is, but I know that there are many old buildings that date back to as far as the 1800s (eighteen hundreds). Many of these buildings are no longer in use, and they are mostly old jails and asylums that have been re-purposed into museums. Having said that, there are many old pubs that also date back to the 1800s which are still in use to this day, and they're some of my favourite places to drink. There are also many ghost stories that go along with these places which gives them a lot of flavour and folklore, which I find interesting; in particular, about a 2 hour drive from my hometown there is an old pioneer village which is made up of hundreds of real, old buildings, so you get to see what pubs, homes, shops, and movie theatres were like in the past, but it's supposed to be terribly haunted. What's the oldest place in your hometown like?

The "Fairbanks House" is less than 10 km. from my home. The organization that supports it says:

"The Fairbanks House in Dedham, Massachusetts is a historic house built ca. 1641, making it the oldest surviving timber-frame house in North America that has been verified by dendrochronology testing."

Wood-frame houses are the traditional and most common kind of house in the northern United States. My own house is a wood-frame house. Up through the late 1800s, the northern US was covered with forests, and wood was a cheap building material.

My original hometown where I was raised is itself in Jericho category. Varanasi (Banaras, Kashi) is among the oldest and holiest cities in India, and a great tourist attraction. Some of the inner city lanes are just wide enough for a single normal person to pass. A few old and collapsing mudbrick walls look positively antediluvian.

The bathing "ghats" on the banks of the river Ganga go back a very long time and they are mentioned in our oldest scriptures, though the present forms are much more modern. Likewise, Sarnath on the outskirts of the city dates back to the Buddha, over two millennia ago. Ancient temples abound everywhere.

It's a continuously inhabited city that has been built over many times, but no proper archaeological research has ever been conducted partly due to rеligiоus disputes. Even so, the place has existed since at least the Vedic times, possibly even earlier. That puts the central part of the city at least five millennia ago, around 3000 BCE.

My town was settled in 1893. It is small with approximately 1200 people. It consists of trees and houses, no shops. In a nearby town, there is a house build in 1924-1925.
