Christopher Columbus ( or Cristóbal Colón) was an Italian explorer, colonizer and navigator who born in The Republic of Genoa in 1451 and died in 1506.
Funnily enough, some modern historians have argued that Colón was not from Genoa, but instead, from Catalonia, Portugal or Spain
However, those hypotheses have been discounted recently by mainstream scholars.

I understand your question, he was 1000% culturally portuguese.
Although he was, apparently, from Genoa, he came to Portugal in 1470, learned everything on navigation, exploration, charting, astronomy, etc, in Portugal, that at the time was the ONLY european country whose ships were already exploring the open Atlantic Ocean, all the way to the Azores and along the western coast of Africa.
Then he married the daughter of one of Portugal's earliest explorers and learned even more.
They both moved to the portuguese island of Porto Santo and had a son. In those years Columbus accompanied many portuguese expeditions to the South and to the North Atlantic, by then the portuguese ships had already reached the Sargasso Sea which is close to the Bermuda Islands.
Many historians theorize that the portuguese may have reached Bermuda and more islands of the caribeean and even probably the north-american coast, but in those days everything was top secret and the portuguese were more interested in continuing exploring the african coast to find out if was possible to sail around Africa and reach India by sea. eventually, in 1488 they did just that and Columbus was present, at the portuguese court when the discoverer, Bartolomeu Dias returned and reported to the king the Sea Route to India was open...
Columbus left for Spain under mysterious reasons after his portuguese wife died.
Some say he pretended to have fled, accused of a conspiracy against the portuguese king, so that he could become a portuguese secret agent, whose objective was to "give" the spanish the new lands to the west so that they could leave the portuguese all alone with the multi-million Sea Route to India...
