So if you were learning English as a second language, what would want to know? This is a question for Anglophones as well as anyone who has ever tried learning English as a second language :) Is there anything that would have made your life easier if you knew them earlier?
I really want to help my language partners out with English and I'm not sure where to start with this one. I'm making a list of phrases and vocabulary that are essential for everyday life, so if you have any suggestions please let me know!
**also sorry if a discussion or thread like this has been made already, I'm new to the site and I thought this would be the best way to get answers
1) Don't panic, this is a marathon not a sprint
2) Make your home environment immersive
2b) this means turn your phone into English, turn your laptop English, watch English news (BBC world service is good), listen to English music, watch English films (with subtitles if it helps)
3) Talk on skype with English speakers
4) Do all your hobbies in English
You must use the proper way to practice and learn English.
Practicing English with effectiveness had better consist in learning and thinking.
Do not just listen without thinking or learning which is totally wasting your precious time.
A list of essential phrases and vocabulary has to be useful but you had better remind the learner how to use it properly and have them making sentence with the words you assigned to ensure they really understand.
Hi Kathy,
