This is my first discussion on Italki, I would like to practise my english, and the most effective way that works on me until now, is to watch American soap operas and movies with English or French (french is my native language) subtitles, so I want to share with you my favourite American shows.
I really enjoyed : Friends, How I met your mother, 24, Chuck, The big bang theory, two and a half man, Vampire Diaries ....
I watched each of this shows more than ones and they are amazing.
How about you ??
Game of throne is amazing, it's helpful to know the medieval English and to be familiar with the British accent.
@Yannick don't worry if you can't understand the scientific terms in TBBT, I think that even the American watchers doesn't really understant all when they talk about science, I saw the french version of the show (with dubbing) and it's really hard to understan sheldon and leonnard when they talk about science...
@Lei Wang do not be discouraged, keep watching, first with chinese subtitles then with english subs then whithout subtitles, I'm sure you will make a very good progress after that.
I recommend too the serie Game of Thrones and Once upon a time.
I really am like you. I am brazilian and my native language is portuguese. I'm learning english, so i am studying through movies and music. I recommend the film Diary of Anne Frank is not a dubbed film, and this makes it easier to learn english.
I really love "How I met your mother" and "New girl". I think they are really helpful for the listening of common conversations.
I like Homeland and Game of Thrones.
