Jan 7, 2020 - First interview preparation class
Recently I joined a website, where people are helped to find a new job abroad, prepare for an interview and make the relocation to the new country easy. I met a very amazing and inspiring community there.
There is a premium service on the website which allows you to attend the interview preparation classes, have your resume reviewed by professional HR-specialist and other options. So I decided to give it a try and paid for the premium service.
Yesterday I began attending the interview preparation course. It was my first time participating in such a class. There were about fifteen guys from different countries. Just to name a few: India, Brazil, Pakistan, and me from Russia. Very diverse and multicultural crowd.
A teacher or a lecturer, or I would better call him an instructor, a couch is an outstanding speaker. It seems like he has a lot of experience in coaching people and he knows what he does.
We had a few rounds where every attendee had to say something about himself or answer a question. The interesting part was that our coach set a timer and you had only 30 or 45 seconds to make your speech. It was a simulation of the group interview, a quite intense and pressuring practice.
In the first round, you had to introduce yourself, in the second one - to tell what is good planning in your opinion and the last one - to give feedback on the coach’s comments.
During the class, I made notes about my weak points and here they are.
- I understand that I don’t have a short story about me as a professional. That’s a topic for a future post.
- I saw that I don’t have defined and clear plans for the next year.
- I realized that I can’t quickly formulate my thoughts and put them in well-formed sentences and words in English. ;-)
I guess this is a good place to start. I hope that with the help of italky community I can improve my English skills. So, guys, please, don’t be shy to edit my writings and make suggestions about style, phrases and used words. :-)
P.s. Good luck to all in 2020!
